On the Subject of Goodreads ...

I must confess that it was with great reluctance that I created an account at Goodreads. (Oh, goody, another account I'll probably only use fleetingly.) However, much to both my delight and my amazement I experienced a growing excitement as I became slowly and inexorably drawn to the personal recommendations feature. I even had a ball importing some of my faves after an author AND a title search came up empty through the site search engine.

Giddily I added, not only book-after-book, but bookshelf-after-bookshelf to my account. I (gasp) even wrote a book review -- an unheard of step for me. So far, the only downside to Goodreads I've encountered is the time-consuming nature of adding books to create a comprehensive personal library. Sigh. This process may take awhile, and I envision the same dilemma for a good many of our patrons here at Lovett Memorial.

I can most certainly foresee recommending such a site to our readers, but before I do I must take more time to fully explore Goodreads and build enough first-hand knowledge of the site to feel comfortable directing patrons to take the same plunge and sign-up for this or a similar on-line service.
