What's been going on ...

It has been a rather interesting couple or three weeks here at Pampa’s Lovett Memorial Library, 111 N. Houston. The library experienced an unexpected (though not unwelcome) influx of students seeking books for a research project. In response to this need for books in specific subject areas, this blogster went searching the library’s link to a number of databases (DBs) and — lo and behold — discovered a wonderful DB for school projects or simply for general use.

Through the state, through the region’s library consortium, and through Lovett Memorial’s Web site patrons and Texas residents may access a truly amazing collection of resources — peer-reviewed articles, images, encyclopedias, e-books, citations, repair manuals, craft projects, college prep guides, GED test materials, and much, much more.

What is this wonderful resource of which this blogster raves, you ask?

(Drum roll, please.)  And the answer is …

“TexShare!”

By logging into TexShare, patrons may access an EBSCOhost eBookCollection. EBSCOhost is a leading database vendor with a plethora of DBs devoted to miscellaneous and sundry topics. eBook Collection includes, according to the database description provided by TexShare, some 25,000-plus e-books. So if you are searching for that classic Thomas Hardy volume and your local library only has a couple of his more famous works, check out EBSCOhost’s e-book database.
This blogster used the database to look up books on robot-building projects for libraries and found books on the subject dating back to as early as 2005. However, when accessing or searching this DB it is important to remember to select or to check the full-text option. Failing to select the full-text option may result in less than the entire sought-after e-book.
For more information on TexShare or other library services, contact Lovett Memorial Library at 669-5780. The library’s Web site is located at www.pampalovettmemorial.org.
